Benteen Elementary School Field Trip Parent Chaperone Guidelines
Thank you for volunteering to support our students on their upcoming field trip. Your participation helps ensure that our students have a safe, positive, and enriching experience. Please carefully review the following guidelines. These policies align with Atlanta Public Schools’ expectations and are designed to protect the safety and wellbeing of all students. Anyone who does not follow these rules may not be allowed to chaperone future field trips for Benteen Elementary School.
Field Trip Chaperone Expectations
Supervision: Chaperones must remain with their child(ren) at all times, including during transportation by school bus, if applicable. Parent Chaperones must have an APS Level 2 Volunteer Status on file with the school to Chaperone field trips.
Student Safety: Students should never be left unattended or allowed to separate from the group for any reason.
APS Policies Apply: Field trips are an extension of the school campus. All Atlanta Public Schools policies regarding drug-free, smoke-free, and weapon-free environments apply throughout the trip. No exceptions.
Age Requirement: Chaperones (other than parents or guardians) must be at least 21 years of age.
No Additional Children: Chaperones may not bring younger children or other family members. Field trips are planned specifically for the students participating in the class or grade level.
Attention and Focus: Chaperones are expected to give full attention to their child(ren). Please use cell phones only for emergencies, as personal distractions can compromise student supervision.
Student Behavior: If a student is misbehaving, promptly notify the classroom teacher. Chaperones should not administer discipline independently nor correct any child that is not their own.
Appropriate Dress: Please wear casual, comfortable, and appropriate clothing for the trip. Inappropriate attire includes bikini tops, short shorts, drug-related paraphernalia/images, or any revealing garments.
Professional Conduct: Chaperones should model respectful and positive behavior at all times. Avoid inappropriate language, topics, or discussions about students. Do not take photos or videos of children that are not your own.
Monitoring and Accountability: The classroom teacher will monitor adherence to these chaperone guidelines during the field trip and will report any violations to the Assistant Principal for review and follow-up.
